Stoopid 50 Race & Festival June 8-10 Central PA

Join us for the Stoopid 50 Race and Ride Weekend in Rothrock State Forest just outside of State College, PA on June 8-10. The event will be staged adjacent to Penn Roosevelt State Park at a 4H Camp. The camp is 5 miles from Rt. 322 as it passes through the Seven Mountains area above Milroy, PA. The camp has a nice flat field to set up your tent. It also offers running water, a shower, and toilets.

To start off the weekend fun, there will be a night ride on Friday night, starting from the lake at Penn Roosevelt at 9pm. Saturday morning; you can head out on one of several group rides on Tussey Mtn. Trail for a great technical fun ride. The afternoon will bring loads of fun with some informal competition. The "Shittaka TT" staged event will start off with a twisting, turning, slightly downhill blast with riders going off in 30 second intervals. The next stage is a short leg and lung buster hill climb up Sandhole Trail, if you can make it without dabbing. At the top, you will be on Beautiful Trail to take the third stage, the "dab no dab" Scot Trials. It's a sweet rocky, yet ride-able, ridge with some really cool ledges. Saturday night, NMBA will be hosting a movie and campfire at the camp.

The Stoopid 50 race itself is a great 30/70 mix of forest roads and trails. Starting at 9am Sunday morning, the race covers the bulk of the great trails between Penn Roosevelt and Greenwood Furnace State Park, in the gem of Rothrock, the Coopers Gap area. Yes, there is a pretty hefty 15 minute "Hike-a-Bike" mid-race just after you pass the aid station for the first of two times, but the hike is well worth it. The course will take you on some trails never used in events before like Pigpile, Shittaka, and Brush Ridge. Expect ride times of 5-8 hours. The Stoopid 50 Mile Race is a MASS Endurance Series Event.

Those who plan on racing can register at BikeReg.com. Maps of the race course have are available on the NMBA website.
