Here it is folks!! The bicentennial version of the longest running MTB ride in the country. Yes I did say bicentennial - 200th annual!!!
Come on out on Thanksgiving morning to ride South Mountain and be part of history. Ride the ride that was started by Washington, Jefferson, Tice, Medellin, and Adams.
Many notable dignitaries and political leaders will be there to usher in this watershed event - The President, the Vice-President, senators, local members of congress and area mayors. Well, maybe not all of them but I think the guy that changes the toilet paper in the township hall basement lavatory will be there.
This years pre-ride event list is as fun filled as ever:
* Where's Bernie? Sort of like "Where's Waldo" except orders of magnitude more challenging. Bernie's new svelte form makes him practically invisible when he turns sideways. If Bernie is able to keep silent for any significant amount of time this contest may take a while (my money is on this lasting about 3 seconds). The winner gets one of Bernie's 'used' tomatoes (you can ask Bernie where the tomatoes come from).
* Oldest, crappiest bike contest. A wide open event this year. My bike - a perennial winner - was finally retired this past year.
* Watch Rich chug. Everyone place your bets on when Rich will be unable to chug any more beer. This event has been called on account of darkness the last 3 years running so this year the organizers have moved up the start time to sunrise (personally I can't see any time under 12 hours having a chance of winning). The event organizers request that all spectators keep out of the "puke splash zone" for the duration of this contest.
There's even talk that Joey V. will make a special guest appearance to measure the unusually high wind velocity coming up the Superman trail. NOTE: It's been theorized that the unusually strong winds - in excess of 75 mph - are due to Greg H. outgassing at the bottom of the hill.
So don't miss this ride. Mark it on your calendar. 9:00 a.m. meeting at the parking lot on top of South Mountain across from the Channel 39 offices.
