I am on the planning committee for the Girls on the Run 5K event in the Lehigh Parkway on Monday, May 24th at 5:30 pm.
Girls on the Run is a 10 week program that teaches 3rd through 5th grade girls about the importance of exercise and nutrition, provides speakers on topics such as peer pressure, cyber bullying, etc... and helps to build self esteem. At the end of the 10 weeks, the girls have trained to participate in a 5K event. :thumbsup:
We are in need of approx. 180 Running Buddies (each girl is paired with an adult who cheers and encourages her through her first 5K). There is a race registration fee of $15 for running buddies, which covers the cost of a background check. We also need 50-60 general volunteers.
I volunteered at the fall 5K and it was a great experience.
