Stroudsburg Tornado clean up this weekend

Date:
Friday, August 21, 2009 - 8:00am to Sunday, August 23, 2009 - 5:00pm

I know there is a bunch of events this weekend and some races etc.. good luck to everyone who competes. In my area we were unfortunate to have been struck by an f2 tornado... It oculd've been alot worse if not the tall mature red oaks that slowed it down tremendously as it was heading directly into Stroudsburg...

Here is the time and info on the clean up this weekend... maybe some of you can lend a hand.

Jim Dellavalle

The July 29th F2 tornado that tore through Cherry Valley and leveled the Blakeslee Farm in Stroudsburg, PA (Monroe County), has left behind a significant debris field in the riparian wetlands & meadow along Cherry Creek. Hundreds--possibly thousands--of pieces of corrugated metal roofing (some over 15-feet long), vinyl siding, aluminum siding, T-111 siding, barn boards, asphalt roofing shingles, plastic, wood, Styrofoam, insulation & much more litter the land & water at this sensitive site.

In the weeks since the twister, lots of folks with heavy equipment and lots of dumpsters have been hard at work removing the "big" stuff. This equipment will be gone in the next day or so and the laborious task of picking up all the smaller debris by hand will commence. Mark Blakeslee is looking for help this Friday, Saturday and Sunday (August 21-23) starting at 9:00 a.m. If you are available to help on any or all of these days, please contact Mark on his cell phone after 5:00 p.m. at (570) 460-4280.

You will want to be prepared with leather gloves and work boots. And if you plan to stay a while, you should pack a lunch and lots of water! The temperatures will be in the low 80s but the humidity will be high and there is a chance for thunderstorms, so packing some rain gear might be a good idea ... just in case.
