My little bro who's about to be 14 (5' 80lbs.) is in pretty desperate need of a bike. He's riding an old Pacific of mine that I had a decade ago, and it finally just pretty much crapped out, the rear derailleur deoesn't work, the front derailleur is all messed up, it's extremely heavy and obviously no good on the trails. He hasn't gotten to try out any yet, as I don't want to take him on this hunk-a-junk and ruin the concept of mountain biking for him. So does anyone have any suggestions on a smaller (14-16 in. frame) bike that is trail worthy, but nothing serious. I've been looking at the Trek 3000 series bikes, and maybe a Giant Boulder SE or Rincon. Would a WSD bike work as well since he's a smaller guy and super light (obviously we don't want a flaming hot pink ride here though)? Looking to spend around $400 or less (the Rincon is a little on the expensive side). Obviously cheaper is a major plus, but we know that we'd rather get him a better bike that he can actually use than another Wal-mart rail trail tank. Used is awesome too, so if anyone out there wants to get rid of a smaller bike, give me a yodel.
