I'm a rookie to the mountain biking scene and on top of that had intensive shoulder surgery a week after I got my bike in August. So I really only started riding in late October two weeks after I removed my sling, but I've been consistently getting to South Mountain-Lehigh, Salisbury, and Jordan Park. I'm riding a 2006 Trek Fuel 80 that I bought new in August (for an unbeatable price!). Now I'm not too picky as I'm a newbie at this, but I've noticed my rear shock is beyond unresponsive. It's a Rock Shox Bar 2.1, which I know is one of the lowest shocks on the totem pole from Rock Shox. I've read a few customer reviews on the net and most people feel its pretty crummy and upgrading makes a world of difference. I just wanted to know opinions of how crummy this shock is, I feel like I get almost no response from it. Bike almost feels like an old hardtail I used to ride on the road. Any suggestions? Should I just wait it out, or if it really is as crummy as I think, any suggestions on a modest upgrade? Fox Float R perhaps? Thanks for the advice.
