The Minsi Trails Council of Boy Scouts of America is sponsoring a joint Jamboree with Hawk Mountain Council (Berks County) to hold a Jamboree on the campus of Kutztown University on Saturday May 17th 2008. Guys, we're expecting over 3000 Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, along with thier families and students of KU to be in attendance for this event and this is what I'd like to ask of each of your shops. I am taking responsibility for setting up an activity area for biking and would love to include both shops, the Dirt Devils and VMB to provide an area to provide instruction in bicycle safety, bike maintenance, riding areas and oppurtunities and display demos by local riders (trails, jumping, DH rigs, XC bikes, road bikes, etc.) And of course, any swag you could afford to hand out or raffle off, etc.
I am envisioning a couple of pop up tents for the shops to have some display bikes, the clubs to provide safety instruction and demos, and the shops wrenches to help show young riders the right way to care for their steeds. I think Chris had some protable ramps? That would be awesome. I emailed Jeff Lenosky, but obviously heard nothing back and I know he's busy that time of year. But barring that, anybody who is willing to show up, I'd love to have a big turnout of local bike scene to promote and encourage these kids to get on the friggin' bikes and ride!
I know SOME of you are Eagle Scouts and other assorted ranks and I'll just leave you with the thought that as Scouters, we are expected to give back to Scouting when we can.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or comments. Also, if you can reply and let me know if you can or can't help out, that'd be cool too.
Ride on and thanks in advance..
