Receiving (and providing?) some inspiration

Although fall is my favorite season to ride, it often means allergy hell for me. Coupled with work deadlines, this sometimes results in a work/sleep regiment for me. If you haven't seen much of me recently, now you know why.

Anyway...

I have made it two events recently — each very different and yet somehow they ended up being similar. A few things about these experiences struck me this morning:

Last weekend, at Take A Kid Mountain Biking Day, I witnessed a bunch of kids show up so very excited about the idea of spending a day on their bikes and various bike-related activities. Who knows? maybe some of them will become life-long cyclists and always enjoy finding their inner-child via two-wheeled freedom and some soil.

I came away from this weekend inspired.

This weekend, via volunteering to lead a ride at the Coalition For Appropriate Transportation's grand re-opening, I met someone whose life had previously included a lot of cycling. His life circumstances evolved and led him down some very troubled paths. After years away from the bike, he was returning — looking to get back on track via some two-wheeled freedom and some soil.

I came away from this weekend hoping that I had provided a little inspiration.
