The start of the series is soon but I am planning on racing this event www.megavalancheperu.com it's a great event great culture great promoters check it out. some of you asked about these races at our meeting last night. here's info on it.
There are several events held in South America, and in Europe. The event takes place usually above 10,000 feet. Last years race I did was at 15,000 feet and it was tough to get use to the altitude but it was a great endurance for me, it is not by any means a xc race at all. It is a rugged Freeride race starting in a Le Mans fashion. 100 racers go at a time with a 45 minute interval.. depending on the mtn range that's how it goes. The events need more support here in the USA but are ever growing in Europe and South America. check out the site...
The closest event to a Megavalanche here is either the Garbanzo Downhill at Whistler during Crankworks or the Downieville classic DH race but hardly close to it at all.
